One week and counting!

First off, Mom you had us all rolling, if you didn't read my mom's comment on the last blog post you have to... it is hysterical... actually Kenny and I were thinking about souveniers and we thought we didn't need to buy you one, that we would just let you have Eli for a month... isn't a new grandson enough of a souvenier???? imagine a month with a 4 year old has to be easier than a month with an 8 year old!!!!

So, today we visited our little guy again, and let me tell you- he really is all about testing his freedom with us... when the room "mamas" are around he is all business, doing exactly what he is told... minding, behaving, when he gets us alone, he is a holy terror! Galya even taught us to say "Mama scazala..." like in Mama says no, or mama says come here... it is suppossed to be very intimidating... well not so much, he just turns and laughs and goes right back to what he is doing... yep, we have a little handful here... We gave him a granola bar for the first time today, he loved that, and he can't get enough of the juice boxes, he literally starts drinking and doesn't stop until it is all gone. We also tried on some of the clothes we bought him today, he got so excited, and didn't want to take them off, maybe he really doesn't like wearing Minnie Mouse clothing! We will visit Eli again tomorrow morning and then we are headed back to Kiev for the rest of Saturday and Sunday, we will return her to Preluky on Monday for hopefully just one more night... if all goes well Monday and Tuesday we will be able to take him from the orphanage for good on Tuesday night and head back to Kiev!

Last night we taught Galya how to play Sequence, and after a few games she really got the hang of it, actually too well, she beat us both 3 in a row! Beginners Luck! Then we started in with the Sopranos---- we had some difficulty with the season 1 disc so we ended up skipping to season 2... intense show! we have that on the agenda again for tonight!

We haven't commented much on the Ukrainian lifestyle... a few things that we have noticed. First, everyone eats icecream ALL THE TIME. I mean at any point there are 20 people on the street eating icecream, doesn't matter if it is 8 am or 8 pm... it is all the time... the same goes for drinking beer... come to think of it Angie and Todd would fit right in here, people are short and drink beer all the time (Love you guys!) However Angie's fashion taste- you know the sweatpants!!!! would certainly not fit in here... the women are dressed up ALL THE TIME... we were told to dress simply so not to bring attention to ourselves, well dressing simply does bring attention to us... the women of all ages are seriously dressed as if they were headed to a night club.... the more clevage the better, this includes the children, pre teens and teenagers! and the heels!!!! wow! and they walk EVERWHERE in 3 or 4 inch heels with straps going half way up their legs! Oh, also, it is not important at all for your clothes to match... they rarely do, and that isn't just in the orphanage, and for the hair, well Kenny swears there was a clearance sale on Clairol Pink hair color, since almost every hair style has a bit of pink in it! As for the guys it is all about the Adidas and Nike shirts, the tighter the better, and sandals with SOCKS! yep, have to wear the socks with the sandals! Shorts are very rare... and Dolce and Gabana is the choice knock off designer brand for everyone! Yep, Kenny and I stick out like crazy as the American Tourists! And another thing... driving, you know street signs, lines on the road, stop lights are all just "suggestions" you can really do whatever you want, even drive and park on the sidewalks! Pedestrians don't get angry, they just get out of the way! And the bike riders, seriously, not sure how they stay on the bikes... the drivers whiz by them within inches going 50mph or more and they don't even wobble... me, I would be lying flat on the road! And the dogs and cats, they just roam around everywhere, they know to get out of the way of cars too... Kenny swears he saw a bobcat walking the streets yesterday, I didn't see it, but I actually believe that he saw it!

Well that is it for today... a few business things... Paige- so excited about the primary color dump trucks!!!!!! exactly the look I was hoping for ;) no really, we sent you and mom and Beaven some emails... if you don't get them please call us tomorrow at the apartment in Kiev or at the other number I gave Dad, we might need some help with our plane tickets, it seems as if some of our emails aren't getting through... and tell Clay we are so excited he got a hit!

Again, all our love, we miss you all.. can't wait to be home!

Oh- one final note... Eli learned to say Jake!!!!! :) and he can point him out in the pictures! Jake your little brother can't wait to meet you!

Well its Dad not Mom and i may be the first post today!!!!!!!!! If you think Mom's post is funny you ought to be trying to live through it and with it. Really it is very interesting having Jake. He has been a real trooper and brought us a great deal of joy and laughter, although at a much faster pace than we are used to lately. Have you taught Eli any other english words besides Jake? Seems you all are learning some russian what about teaching my new little guy some english like POP? Go figure you new that would be a top priority for me or anyone with any brains!!!! Keep telling me more about the little guy he sounds fun, and i know Jake and all of us are going to adore him. Keep us posted, Love Dad.

Yes, one week and counting. I know you three will be happy to be home. Tell Kenny I expect him to have pink hair when he gets back. Ha, Ha Your stories about visiting Eli are so awesome. Giving him little taste of what it will be like here, food, drinks, clothes, toys, it has to be more than he could ever dreamed of there. How has the language barrier been with him so far, did they give you any tips on how to bridge that gap or does he alreay know some english? The Fire play Sunday at 1:00, and the doubleheader on Father's Day is at 1:00 and 3:00. Have a great weekend and it won't be long and you guys will be home. Amen

I read that you guys are watching two HBO series. We started watching Rome last night – yet another one from HBO. You should try this one next - it’s both educational and violent.

I saw that Jesse and Anna have dibs on favorite cousin, and Cathy called favorite aunt - so even though it’s obvious, I want to be known as Eli’s favorite uncle!

Keep the Eli stories coming!

Uncle Fave Dave!

Pryluky is a great little town. My youngest was at that same detsky dom just a year ago. Say hello to the new director for me! I've been there a couple of times, so we can share stories and photos.

HI. I SENT A COMMENT LAST NIGHT, AND SOME HOW IT GOT TAKEN OFF. TELL ELI THAT NANNIE IS STOCKING UP WITH THE TREATS. THE REST OF THE GRANKIDS KNOW WHERE TO FIND THEM AT MY HOUSE, I'M SURE HE WILL TOO.

I THINK KENNY WOULD LOOK GOOD WITH SOME PINK HI LIGHTS IN HIS HAIR. YOU SHOULD GET SOME OF THOSE SHOES WITH THE HIGH LACES UP YOUR LEGS. YOU BOYH WOULD BE THE TALK OF ST. B'S.

LOVE YOU NANNIE

So glad to hear from you and that you will be home next Friday with Eli! What about bringing home some of that pink hair dye for Paige to fix our hair, I'm sure she would love it. Your dad and Jake came up and watched some of Olivias' softball game after his was over and he was happy as ever eating on his chocolate candybar!
We think about you all daily. See you soon.

Hey guys, love hearing the stories about Eli and the area....so funny! I am glad you are able to entertain yourselves while your there....Mark & I are big Soprano fans....don't watch or listen to papers over the weekend for the series finale....it will ruin your fun.....we always TiVo the episodes because we constantly have to rewind to figure out who someone is or what they said! Julie O'Neil sends her best to you guys...saw her at the office....so I guess you both should have worn your talent show outfits to the Ukraine, sounds like you would have fit right in with the crowds there! Barb & Roy....now that you've broke yourselves in with Jake....do you mind taking my three boys (there's only 6 sports teams between them that you need to keep track of :) Seriously, I know how hard it is and you are wonderful grandparents to take that task on for Shannon/Kenny...it will all be worth it when you meet Eli for the first time! Keep us posted on your arrive time/date...love ya!

What about "PIPPY" can Eli say that yet?! There are enough pictures of me in that book....he should have my entire face memorized by now!
Nope, still no e-mails but Beaven said she took care of the important travel plans for you guys. Whoooo Hoooo! You'll be home sleeping in your own beds next week at this time!!!! That is...if Eli will let you sleep! Keep me posted this week... Mom said she re-booted your card so call me tomorrow morning if you can... I'll answer so Anna won't hang up on you again!!

Hmmm... Kiev is known for 4" heels and cleavage. Sounds like we have determined the next location for a boys weekend!

Seriously, Lynn and I are very happy for guys. We cannot wait to meet Eli.

Colin spent the night at Gram and Granddad's last night. Lynn and I went to a wedding in Bardstown (at My Old Kentucky Home) and bar hopped afterwards. (Don't worry, we were home by midnight). We ran into Cindy Jury at the bar and saw Jimmy Ford sing. Afterwards we hit White Castles and Lynn ordered one chicken and cheese. It was the perfect evening.

UofL is still playing in the College Baseball tournament. They won their regional and are hosting Oklahoma State in a best 2/3. They won Friday 9-0 and lost today in 12 innings. (They took a 2-1 lead in the ninth and their closer gave up a long ball ... it was out of Rita). The winner of the final game on Sunday goes to Omaha. Lynn and Emily went to the game while Neil and I played Mr. Mom.

BTW, Colin is walking now. Actually, sprinting is more like it. I long for the days of immobility. Take care. We will see you soon.

Hey! Sorry it's been so long...we have this 9 week old who doesn't like sleep unless she is being held. Life is fun!!!!!!!!!! Love reading all your stories especially about Eli :)
Lynn and I went to see U of L play in the super regional tourney today, it was so much fun, just wish they had won. They play tomorrow, best of 3 to go to the college world series.
Nathan and Molly are in the Big O this weekend with Mom and Dad while we try to work on Abby's sleep (or lack of sleep) habits. She's killing me.
I need to learn how to play sequence, I am tired of hearing about it and not knowing what it is.
Can't believe you will be here in less than a week. Stay Safe and we love you! Em

We're all sooooo excited to meet Eli! Mackenzie is so jealous of Kassie because she gets to spend time with Eli AND Jake this summer. I've loved the few days we've spent with Jake this summer --- he's so seesome--- what a great family ---- Eli is lucky. Can't wait to meet the little guy. Be safe ---- and, Kenny, I say go with the pink highlights. It'll look good on stage next karaoke night.
