We made it through court!

It was certainly interesting... the judge was a very friendly man with a smile, which is not all that common around here, he asked us lots of questions... one that I found very funny was if we were hiding any money from the government! Wish I could say we were! He asked about how we were going to adjust to life with this new guy, and I answered honestly... I have no idea...we will just figure it out like any new parents do!

So according to the Ukraine law he is now officially a Zickel, we just have to get through the 10 day waiting period.... and then we are in the home stretch. I tell you the one thing that got me during the court process was that they repeated several times that he had lived his entire life in the orphanage- just something hard to hear over and over again!

After court we went back to the orphanage where they were celebrating Protection of Children Day (June 1 in the Ukraine) a English tobacco company was sponsoring a puppet show, and treats for the entire orphanage, they had already started by the time we arrived and when Eli saw us standing at the door he came running to us... we grabbed a seat but that didn't last for long... he was all over the place... reminds me of Jake as a little guy... he would move from my lap to Kenny's lap, climb over the chairs back to his room Mama... and on and on... and yes, most of the other kids were sitting enjoying the show... we are certainly going to have our hands full with this guy! We didn't get to visit long today, we had to head back to Kiev so the faciliators could drop off paperwork... but gave us the chance to pop in to the internet cafe for a while! Please keep all the good thoughts and prayers coming, they are working, and I know we are going to need them when we get home too to help with the transition!
All Our Love! Shannon and Kenny

What wonderful news!!!!! Thanks for adding info about Eli's personality. I was wondering what he is like and he truly sounds perfect for your family. I am sure he and Jake will fall into each others footsteps quickly.

Our prayers for a safe journey home and more importantly the patience for the next 10 days to come home.
Love,
DP and Laura

AWESOME!!! Yes....the tears are rolling here as well and it's not my hormones. (haha) It was so nice to hear of him running over to you guys (what a wonderful feeling). He is going to adjust just fine and Jake is going to be a great Big Brother!

Congratulations! No worries on the height/weight percentile as Ronnie will help move those numbers up with his fish tacos, fish donuts, and fish ice cream...oh wait...that is Clay! I vow to keep Ronnie from teasing/messing with Eli the way he does all other children. Can you image the English words he would teach Eli?

Anyway, we love you and miss you terribly! Shelby has gotten a hamster to help with her broken heart in Jake's absence. She named it Dorie from Nemo. I guess she thinks it has short-term memory. I am sure of it as the thing runs in that darn wheel 24/7. Lee just asked if he could go see if Jake and Eli were home. Ronnie just said he needs to go cut the clover. And I just miss seeing you around...something definately feels amiss on our little street.

Like everybody watching this blog, we are anxiously awaiting your safe return to Louisville.

Kenny, Shannon, and Eli, Glad to hear all is going so well. Eli is so lucky to have two wonderful people like yourselves as parents and a great kid like Jake for a brother. God has truly blessed you all! Now finish up and come home safe and Jake can introduce his brother to America's Favorite Past-Time Baseball. Jake made the A Champions Team and will be playing a lot more ball this summer. Way to go Jake and Aaron! Can't wait to see you guys when you get home and love sitting with you at the Fire games.
